Podium Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain :- Different Types of Podium For Concrete Floor Systems

In my last article, I discussed the different types of Podium. This article focuses on one of the most dangerous that they have: fire-resistant metals. As a metal it has some very good qualities; thermal conductivity is very high for example. It is however inherently flammable, so handling it requires extra care. Let us take a look at the other four types of Podium.

Fire-resistant type :

The first type of Podium that we will look at is the Fire-resistant type. A fire-resistant podium slab is a flat structure used to raise an object to a certain height above its surrounding environment. For instance, if you build a fire-proof building in a rural area, the building would automatically be raised to a certain height above the soil. If you use a standard concrete or cement structure, the concrete would break into pieces once it is exposed to fire, reducing its safety factor.

Self-leveling and self-cleaning one :

The second type of Podium is the self-leveling and self-cleaning one. In this case, the material has a built-in two-dimensional construction system, with a primary layer that is less thick than the secondary one. Once the primary layer becomes too thin, it pushes up against the secondary one and forms a cushion. This cushion then becomes a safety barrier, since even the smallest spark can ignite the secondary layer, causing the flame to spread.

The third type of Podium is sectional, which has a horizontal separation between its base and the base material it is attached to. The horizontal separation ensures a low-airflow and therefore low-fire. A sectional Podium is often used as a temporary support for concrete or other heavy materials. It can also be used for the containment of gases and oil, as well as storing and protecting archive information.

Not suitable for construction on ground level

A final type of Podium is the pedestal wall Podium, which is a row of pedestal-type columns lined across the base material. The columns provide stability for the podium, which is then secured onto the pedestal. In most cases, the column is made from steel and measures up to three feet high and ten feet wide. Even though it is very heavy, this kind of Podium construction is not suitable for construction on ground level, especially in earthquake prone areas.

To help determine the best type of Podium to use in your structure, contact a structural flooring company to receive expert advice. The expert team will determine if your building requires a Podium liner to be added to the floor or if a concrete Podium slab or transfer slab should be used instead. They may also recommend other options that can reduce the fire risk of using Podium. Consultations with a qualified expert team can ensure that you make the right decision for your organization.
